WINDUS Achieves Breakthrough in Robotic Painting Automation

2025-03-27

March 26, 2024 – WINDUS has successfully completed a batch trial spray of Railway workpieces, marking a significant breakthrough in its robotic painting automation initiative. This milestone underscores the company’s commitment to advancing industrial innovation through technology upgrades and process optimization.

Key Project Highlights

1. Comprehensive Technical Upgrades
Under the leadership of Chief Engineer Zhang Huaizhong and Li Xin from the Production Technology Department, the team implemented critical improvements to the robotic painting system, including:

  • Enhanced Layout & Mobility: Optimized robot positioning to expand operational range and flexibility.

  • PLC Control System: Integrated automated control for spray activation, atomization, and fan width adjustment.

  • Precision Turntable: Enabled accurate workpiece positioning via a programmable interface.

  • Advanced Filtration: Installed a three-stage air filtration system and upgraded paint pipelines to ensure impurity-free air and coatings, resolving nozzle clogging issues.

  • Cost-Effective Modifications: Replaced OEM components with in-house solutions (e.g., custom spray gun rods, affordable yet high-performance nozzles) to improve adaptability and reduce costs.

2. Efficiency & Quality Breakthroughs

  • Cycle Time Optimization: Robotic spraying reduced active labor time by 40% (from 4 minutes to 2.4 minutes per workpiece*).

  • *Note: While robotic spraying takes 1.8 minutes per piece (vs. manual 1 minute), the 4-minute auxiliary tasks (e.g., setup) can now be performed concurrently, eliminating downtime.

  • Consistent Quality: Achieved uniform coating thickness (70-80μm) across flat, vertical, and curved surfaces.

  • Safety Enhancements: Added emergency stop mechanisms to mitigate risks and reduce occupational health hazards for workers.

3. Future Goals
The team aims to further optimize spray speed to 1.2 minutes per workpiece, with full project completion expected soon.

Strategic Significance

As part of WINDUS’s industry-academia-research collaboration program, this project exemplifies the company’s problem-solving ethos: iterative testing, cost-effective innovation, and relentless pursuit of industrial automation. The advancements not only boost productivity but also position WINDUS as a leader in sustainable and worker-friendly manufacturing solutions.

Looking Ahead: WINDUS remains dedicated to refining its automated systems, driving smarter, safer, and more efficient production for global partners.

Stay tuned for more updates as we progress toward our final goals!
